About John

IT Professional

my name is John Cassels. I came to Victoria, BC in 2005, after packing up and moving from Kitchener-Waterloo, Ontario. It was a great move, and as much as I cherish my friends and memories from there, I believe moving was for the best. I cut my teeth in the IT field working at the PC wholesale business building custom PCs, moved onto learning and taking a computer network engineering course at a local college, and then the Microsoft MCSE certs. There were a few more courses in there, and a few extra certs, including the Small Business Certification from Microsoft. I ran my own computer business in KW for many years. I specialized in fixing and upgrading small business networks and systems that had been poorly designed. I made a few web sites and learned to use some great resources along the way. While nearly all of the tech has changed, my need for knowledge and professional growth has not. I still take courses today to keep up to date.

My Story

How I Got Started

Currently, I am an IT professional who is employed by BC Emergency Health Services, which is part of Provincial Health Services Authority (PHSA). More specifically, I work with 911 Ambulance technical operations. I am the Team Lead for the Tech Ops group, and together with my team, we look after the 3 Provincial 911 ambulance dispatch centres, and the technical devices in all the ambulances. A little stressful at times, but quite rewarding and i work with a very unique and creative team to get the job done 24/7/365.
